What is Reiki?
Reiki (pronounced ray-key) is the Japanese word for the universal life force that surrounds us. An individual can be attuned to Reiki and can use it for hands on or distant work, depending on the level they have studied and have been attuned to practice.
Reiki is used to balance body, mind and spirit and can be used to focus intention and to help remove obstacles.
Although no claims are being made that Reiki will cure illnesses or diseases, it can provide soothing energy to the person or animal receiving it, which will help with other modalities that are being used to treat them. Many have experienced the reduction of negative symptoms via Reiki treatments and deep relaxation and rest. It is common for a person or animal to fall asleep while they are receiving Reiki.
Reiki will not cause harm, nor will it interfere with any religious or spiritual beliefs or practices. It is not a religion and is not affiliated with any religion.
Our connection to each other and to other life forms
If we start with the premise that all life is connected and that every intention, thought, and action can affect other manifestations of consciousness then it is easy to understand why Reiki works and that we can positively influence the course of our days and lives and those of others.
This premise is supported by many of the great works and great minds in the realms of spirituality and quantum physics - both via the direct experiences of individuals and the results of scientific experimentation. Many in these fields view all life as vibration. We are comprised of moving particles of energy. Through Reiki we can magnify positive intentions for the benefit of an individual or for the benefit of all.
Reiki is currently being used by nurses and other health care practitioners, and is one of the modalities being studied by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine.
